Planning with Iris
Iris owns community priorities, benchmarks and annual goals. Margo manages organizational grants and funding; Cora provides service discovery. All use shared Suwara records.
Choose priorities and set goals
Click a metric name to expand it. Check a goalable outcome to include it in the shared plan; that selection saves immediately. Context measures provide background and cannot be selected for annual goals.
Review history, references, Evidence, and Freshness, next update, notes. Choose % or Count, enter annual targets, then click Save targets. Targets save as drafts. Blank fields do not delete existing targets.
Read the circle and arrow
Red: worse than both peers and Florida. Amber: mixed. Yellow: about the same. Green: better than both. Bright green: at least 2 percentage points better than both (10% for other units). Gray: context or missing comparisons. These are display thresholds, not statistical significance.
↑ Improving · ↓ Worsening · → Unchanged · ? Unavailable. Lower-is-better measures reverse the numeric direction. Trend compares the two latest available Clay observations with matching source and period shape.
Explore comparisons
Years & Benchmarks changes the shared benchmark basis and peer counties. County Comparison lets you explore counties, metrics and years without changing that saved benchmark. Missing or noncomparable values remain explicit. Observation periods, sources and vintages must match.
Total resident population forecasts are not birth denominators. Equivalent birth counts remain unavailable without a valid forecast denominator. Choosing Count changes target units, not historical observations.
Shared public pilot
No login is required. Anyone can edit the shared Clay plan. Programs and Progress are planned features.
Choose and arrange services and metrics
All services and their default metrics are shown when a plan has no saved visibility choices. Expand service sections and metric names to review history and benchmarks before choosing priorities. Selection, Hide, and drag controls are on the right.
Check Select to make a goalable metric a priority. Unchecking leaves it visible for consideration. Hide removes a metric or service from view without deleting selections, goals or history. Context metrics remain reference-only.
After hiding a service, Add services appears above the list. Within each service, Add metric restores hidden metrics. Show all default metrics restores visibility without changing selections, goals or ordering.
Drag service handles to reorder services; drag metric handles to reorder within their service. Up and down buttons also work with keyboard or touch. These changes save immediately to the shared plan. Undo reverses the last visibility or ordering change. Changes affecting existing goals ask for confirmation and preserve those goals.
SETUP contains Years & Benchmarks.
Read the year timeline
History, intervening years, and plan target years share one calendar axis. A dash means no available comparable observation; it is never a zero or an invented forecast. Targets are editable only during the plan years. Scroll within the timeline to see all years on smaller screens. Historical data loads in small batches, and incomplete loads show a warning.
Named plans and planning cycles
Use the Plan & cycle selector on every planning page. A named plan can have successive or overlapping dated cycles; different plans can use the same dates. SETUP → Plans & Cycles creates and manages them. The selected destination is shown above Priorities & Goals.
Select, Hide, arrangement and participation changes save immediately to the selected working cycle. Enter annual targets and click Save targets; benchmark changes and cycle notes have their own Save buttons. Switching asks about unsaved targets and keeps those entries in this browser for your return. Archived plans and cycles cannot be reopened; start a new draft cycle instead.
Snapshots and carry-forward
Save targets before capturing a named snapshot. Snapshots freeze captured priorities, targets, benchmarks, evidence/source versions and participating organizations. View them read-only or compare snapshots. Historical observations absent from the captured record remain dashes; live evidence is not substituted.
New cycles can start fresh or use a prior cycle or snapshot. Choose individual services, metrics, priorities, overlapping-year targets and organizations, plus ordering, benchmarks and notes/assumptions. Review the choices before creation. New-year targets stay blank and the source remains unchanged.
Cycle participating organizations
Organizations participating in a cycle are distinct from coalition membership and initiative teams. Record invited, participating, inactive or withdrawn status, a cycle role and service involvement in Plans & Cycles. Snapshots preserve the roster at capture time. Copying organizations into a new cycle is an explicit choice.
The current public Clay pilot allows shared editing without login. Its organization choices are limited to public Clay service organizations and organizations already associated with pilot cycles; this does not imply coalition membership or grant general access to other communities.
Opening and switching planning context
Iris restores your last-selected cycle on this browser. If it is missing, or there is no designated default Active cycle, choose a cycle explicitly. An arbitrary Active cycle is never selected merely because it appears first. Multiple Active cycles may coexist, including the same or overlapping dates. Archived cycles stay read-only permanently.
Unsaved target entries remain separated by cycle in this browser tab. Source loading during selective copy ignores late responses after you change the chosen source. Selection and arrangement changes autosave; annual targets require Save targets and show the destination.
Snapshot comparisons use captured values, observation periods and sources. Refresh does not substitute live observations. Return to a working cycle for live county exploration.
Initiatives supporting a metric
Initiative bars appear between the county actuals/targets and peer comparison rows. Each bar follows the initiative’s current schedule, falling back to its baseline dates when needed. Hover over a bar or focus it with the keyboard to read its description, intended contribution, status and dates. These bars show scheduled work, not measured results or percent complete. County targets remain on the county row.
Rows come from initiatives associated with the metric in the selected planning cycle. Snapshot views use only captured initiative information; older snapshots may have no initiative rows.
Maps without a plan
Open Maps to explore the 14-county Waste Not region or any Florida counties without signing in. County search filters the checkbox list; presets select and fit their counties. Choose public layers and Apply map settings. Drag or use arrow keys to pan; + and − zoom. Source legends describe current data, missing values and sampling uncertainty.
Style and download maps
Metrics starts collapsed beneath Counties. Layers contains map areas and roads; Points contains food assistance, food pantries, meal programs and Organization locations. Use the + control beside a layer or point type to choose opacity, color and drawing order. Point types also have shape, size and Group nearby points controls. Hover or focus a feature for information; click or tap to open details. Drag to pan and use two fingers to pinch and zoom. Selecting a road class enables Highways automatically. Provider search clears after selection and keeps the chosen provider as a removable chip.
Other options controls County names and County seats. Legend & sources starts collapsed; expand it to see symbols, ranges and sources. Download map offers the whole selected area or current viewable area, a PNG image or a map report, and optional title and legend. Full-area downloads load locations and roads for the full selected area before creating the image. Affiliation search in Save Map uses the shared organization directory; it is separate from the published provider locations on the map.
Save and reopen your maps
Save Map asks for your name, optional organization and email the first time. Verify your email through its link or code. Your draft survives the return; choose Save Map to finish. A verified session is remembered on the same browser. Use My Maps to search all saved map names. The list shows up to five rows before scrolling. Select one map with its checkmark, then choose Open selected map. Rename, Duplicate, Delete and Set default act on that selected map. Save as new preserves a separate copy. Revision conflicts keep your draft; reopen the latest saved map or save a new copy. These maps store settings and load live data, not historical snapshots. Sign out on shared devices.
Sharing and organization access
Choose Share on a saved map to invite a verified email address with View or Edit permission and an expiry date. Organization Maps requires current approved organization membership through the established organization administration process. Selecting an organization on the contact form does not grant membership. Shared with Me lists current authorized invitations. Viewers can explore and save their own copy; only editors can update the shared map. Only owners can delete, reshare, choose their personal default or transfer ownership. Organization defaults are not changed by personal defaults.
Public links require explicit confirmation. Anyone holding the link can see its title and approved public map settings, with no private contact details. Copy the link when created; the token cannot be retrieved later. Revoke access or links from Share. Expiry, revocation and withdrawn layers prevent subsequent access. Sharing, revocation, and transfer actions are audited; public opens have bounded audit records. A previously loaded view cannot be remotely erased from another browser.
Ownership offers
An owner can offer a map to a verified email address. The recipient must explicitly accept in Ownership offers. Acceptance revokes every earlier share and public link, removes the prior owner’s access, and clears the personal default. The owner can cancel a pending offer; the recipient can decline. Invitation emails are bounded and deduplicated; delivery problems are shown with a retry action.
Embedded sign-in
If an embedded browser blocks remembered storage, use Continue directly in Iris. It transfers only public map settings. Verify your email in the first-party tab. Email links and codes can expire; request another verification if needed.
